Airfield Safety Enhancements & Improvements Program

Project Overview

Additional development to the airfield and surrounding infrastructure is a necessary element of Elevate/SAT to improve overall safety, accommodate current and future operations, and improve operational flexibility.

Enhancements will focus on:

  • Improvements to Runway 13R-31L to comply with current Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) safety and design regulations
  • Extending the functional life of Runway 13R-31L by replacing concrete pavement sections, upgrading electrical lighting systems to modern and efficient LED technology, and re-establishing pavement markings
  • Additional improvements to the Storm Line ‘S’, SkyPlace Drainage, and Remote Transmitter/Receiver F to support airfield operations

With funding support from the FAA, these enhancements are necessary to maintain a safe and operational airfield that is aligned with the expansion of SAT, the promotion of economic growth and tourism, and a continuous positive customer experience.
